Do puppies and dogs need vaccines?
Absolutely. Vaccines protect your pet from the most common diseases that are serious and life threatening to their species. It is on the To Do List of all responsible pet owners. In fact, some vaccines – like the one against Rabies – are required by law, so it is important your pet does not miss out on these vaccines.
What vaccines do dogs need?
Vaccines are either core (mandatory) or non-core (optional and recommended according to lifestyle). Below are injections your pet will need:
- Core:
- Rabies
- Canine distemper
- Canine parpovirus
- Canine hepatitis
- Non-Core:
- Leptospirosis
- Bordetella bronchiseptica
How often should dogs be vaccinated?
Puppies can start their first round of vaccines at 6 to 8-weeks-old. They will need injections periodically until they are about 4-months-old at which point they should have completed their round of “puppy” vaccines. Once they reach adulthood, dogs will need to be vaccinated every year or so. For example, core (mandatory) vaccines like Rabies are often given once every 1 to 3 years.
