What vaccines do kittens need?
Vaccines are either core (mandatory) or non-core (optional and recommended according to lifestyle). Below are injections your pet will need:
- Core:
- Rabies
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis
- Feline distemper
- Calicivirus
- Non-Core:
- Bordetella bronchiseptica
- FeLV (for adult cats)
When should my kitten be vaccinated?
Kittens can start their immunization series as early as 6 to 8-weeks-old. There are 3 vaccinations in the kitten series and they should be done 3-4 weeks apart.
Do adult cats still need vaccines?
Yes. From a human perspective, we may think of vaccines as something we get in our childhood. For pets, vaccines and booster shots are a lifelong affair. Depending on the specific vaccine, they will need re-injections once every year or once every 3 years.
