It’s been said that to grow older is a privilege; seeing our pets thrive and reach such a milestone is a unique experience. It also comes with added responsibilities. We can help you keep your senior pet as healthy as possible during their golden years. It will be our pleasure to elaborate further about our senior care services. How often should senior pets go to the vet?
We highly recommend older pets come in for a veterinary exam at least 2 times per year. This way, the doctor can diagnose any conditions early and lessen the extent of any potential problems. Remember, senior pets are more susceptible to arthritis, injuries, heart problems, cancer, dementia and other issues.
Do senior dogs/cats still need vaccines and parasite control?
Yes. Fleas, ticks and other parasites will latch onto your pet no matter their age, during any time of the year. It’s important they still get their parasite control medications through all the seasons. The same thing goes with vaccinations. Our pets need boosters once every year or once every three years to maintain their immunity.
How should I take care of my senior pet?
In addition to regular checkups, dental cleanings and staying on top of their protective medications, there are changes you can make at home that will go a long way. It’s important to keep dogs active both mentally and physically. Consider “low-impact” exercises like walking and swimming. Ensure they have a comfortable sleeping area with ample padding and cushioning. An appropriate diet and regular grooming play huge roles in their quality of life. Your vet can provide suggestions on lifestyle and environmental modifications depending on your pet’s specific needs.
